Orbis Flying Eye Hospital Strengthens Eye Care Training in Chattogram
Orbis Flying Eye Hospital Partners with Chittagong Eye Infirmary to Combat Blindness in Bangladesh
Chattogram, Bangladesh – Late 2024 – The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital has launched a significant collaboration with the Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex (CEITC) in Bangladesh to enhance local eye care services and prevent blindness. This partnership brings a unique aircraft-based teaching hospital to the region, where it will provide advanced training for local eye care professionals.
Through its state-of-the-art mobile facility, Orbis has been offering hands-on education for doctors and nurses in advanced techniques for cataract surgery, retina care, and pediatric eye health—key areas that are crucial to combating preventable blindness in Bangladesh.
The project, which commenced in late 2024, marks a major step toward building local capacity in the field of eye care. By training local health professionals directly in their communities, the initiative aims to create lasting improvements in sight restoration and ensure better access to eye care for vulnerable populations in Chattogram and beyond.
“We are committed to equipping the local healthcare workforce with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle blindness and other eye diseases, making a sustainable impact that extends far beyond the duration of our visit,” said a spokesperson from Orbis.
The partnership focuses on both providing immediate medical care and creating a sustainable model of training, ensuring that expertise stays within the community. As part of its mission, Orbis is working to improve eye care infrastructure in Bangladesh, with the goal of preventing blindness in the future and offering life-changing treatments to those in need.
This initiative is part of Orbis’s ongoing commitment to global eye care, focusing on regions with high rates of preventable blindness. By building stronger local capacity, they are not only restoring sight today but ensuring that the community has the skills to continue this vital work for generations to come.
